How karma works
Karma isn't a score. It's a trust signal.
It tells the site — and other people — that you've been here a while and you use it honestly.
New here? Start with how the site worksWhy karma exists
Karma exists to protect the quality of the site. It helps distinguish people who use the site regularly from brand-new accounts.
Some features are unlocked gradually as karma grows. This isn't to gatekeep — it's to prevent abuse and keep things running smoothly for everyone.
Same site, same features. One has been here longer.
How karma grows
Karma increases through normal use. There's no trick to it.
- Reacting to a movie (picking a tone, emotions, verdicts)
- Publishing a review
- Returning consistently over time
- Having your reviews found useful by others
Longer reviews do not give more karma. A one-click reaction earns the same as a paragraph.
What karma unlocks
As karma grows, small capabilities become available. Think of it as the site getting to know you.
Review movies. React with clicks. Build your watchlist. Create lists.
Edit published reviews. Suggest corrections. Flag content.
Light moderation. Vote on disputed flags. Carry more weight.
Nothing essential is locked. You can review, react, and participate from day one.
What karma does not do
We want to be clear about what karma is not.
- There are no leaderboards. Your karma is not compared to anyone else's.
- There are no public rankings. Nobody is "top reviewer."
- You are never penalized for your opinions. Disliking a popular film costs nothing.
- Karma cannot be lost through normal use. It only grows.
- There is no way to buy, trade, or transfer karma.
Visibility
Your karma number is visible on your profile and next to your reviews. It's displayed small and without fanfare.
Other people can see it, but it's not highlighted or ranked. It's context, not a badge.
That's it
Use the site normally. Karma grows naturally. There's nothing to optimize, nothing to grind, and nothing to worry about.
