Wayne Howard Joseph Fontes (/fonts/; born February 17, 1940) is an American former professional football player and coach. He was the head coach of the National Football League (NFL)'s Detroit Lions from 1988 to 1996. He is the longest tenured head coach in team history. His 67 wins and 71 losses are each the most for a head coach in team history. Fontes played as a defensive back for the New York Titans of the American Football League (AFL).
